MATTERS ARISING:
Correspondence
Warren has contacted Mike Carver to express our agreement with the Gilston Great Park proposals.
Sawbridgeworth Brook.
This is now running well and residents in Brook End have been clearing under the bridges outside
their houses.
Contractors building the new flats in London Road have strict guidelines with regard to the brook
running beside the site.
Alternative Technology.
John Rider announced that the Southbrook Allotment and Garden Community Association is now
up and running and is open to anyone with an interest in gardens or allotments. Request for bird
boxes, bat boxes, compost bins etc. A shed has now been erected on the site for storage and also for
members to meet, exchange information and for seeds, plants etc. to be purchased. To make the
area into an environmental pocket. Warren is currently working on installing solar panels. Thanks
extended to East Herts District Council and Saffron Walden Building Society for grants to enable
this project to commence and also to Diana Richards through East Herts District Council and Brian
Rochester, Sawbridgeworth Town Council. Donation also received from a charity dance organised
by David and Hazel Mead. Bid to be put in to Stansted Airport BAA.
Anemometer.
Warren’s reading from this placed on his house suggests it would not be a good place for a wind
turbine.
Transport Strategy.
Clive Atkins has returned the paperwork but Warren has not yet had time to look through this.
Warren has erected an anemometer at his house to gauge how effective a wind pump would be.
AGENDA ITEMS
Landscape Appraisal.
Clive has carried out his appraisal and completed a very good report on the area from Gilston to
High Wych. Warren suggested asking him if he could also produce a walk in this area.
Further areas still to be done to expand on the information which East Herts have produced. This
information will go towards the Local Plan. It is not known when the submission date is for
completion of the appraisals.
Leventhorpe School Turbine.
Currently producing 1.1 megawatts of energy and saved half a ton of carbon. Question as to the
energy used in the making and installation of this.
Eco Friendly House, Albury.
David Thorogood is setting this up and to look at visiting in the future.
Gilston Great Park,
Thanks have been sent to Nigel Clark, Stop Harlow North group for his presentation at the last
meeting. Appraisal of report due in November. Suggestion that if there is a low provision of
housing at the Harlow North site this would push more housing into Sawbridgeworth.
Stort Valley Park.
This could become an extension to the Lee Valley Park in time as a great deal of work is being
carried out for the Olympic Games event.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING:
Thursday 18th January 2007. 8pm in Hailey Day Centre
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
New proposed cycle path from Birchanger to Harlow Mill. There had been a meeting during the
week regarding the route. It is considered some of the route is unsafe as it involves cycling along
narrow roads which are only 6’6” in width and the recommended width is 10’6”. However it
appears this scheme is going ahead as the lottery funding is only available until 2008 and no
comments will currently make any difference. It is to be part of the National Cycle Route.
Suggestion of a presentation from Rye Meads wildlife area at one of our future meetings.
Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall. Plans are displayed in the front lobby regarding work already
carried out and further renovations needed. This scheme requires support from local residents.
Hailey Day. Drains outside still blocked, which is causing flooding and Peter Jones has written to
East Herts to try and solve this problem.
Information from Joan Willitt that a white middle-aged man is known to be entering houses of
elderly people locally and stealing antiques.
Chris Rees stated that all departments of Princes Alexandra Hospital are currently being looked at
regarding their future.
