Agenda items.
Pollution.
Ted B outline our past experiences trying to gather information to make a case
for urgent action to reduce the level of pollution on the A1184 and its
footpaths and adjoining properties. The levels being above Government targets
for 2005.
Mark P said we must obtain relief from the 29000
vehicles a day passing through Sawbridgeworth with its associated noise, dust
and danger to health for much of the Town from pollution. In reducing the
number of car journeys is the major movement East/West or North/South? In
considering any possible route for a bypass consideration must be given to
stopping development infill and other alternatives to a bypass must have been
considered. We must have a detailed plan lead by a strong team to present a
case to Government. Consideration should be given to the Regional Plan when
putting forward proposals.
The Governments focus in this area is the M11
corridor with consideration to have a new settlement either at “Harlow North”
or Duxford. Any new settlement would increase traffic and increase leverage for
a bypass.
Mark will press for a bypass and must first be in
the County Plan and will take 18months to 2 years to become visible to the
Government.
Tony Dodd outlined his long association with trying
to improve traffic flow in Sawbridgeworth. His recent discussions with the MD
of Stansted A/P indicate they would support an alternative route to the A1184.
Mark asked that we feed back as much data on traffic
to the establishment i.e. HCC and himself.
Diana R asked what are Mouchel contributing?
Tony D explained they were formed by ex-County
Council workers, who contracted out to HCC and never seem to want to accept
advice from local Councillors. The Town Council Members only had a preview of
Mouchel’s public presentation less than an hour before it was opening with no
chance for them to influence the presentation to the public. Mouchel have never
come back to the Council with the results of the survey carried at the
presentation on 28th Feb. Mark P will write to Chief Exec of Mouchel
to ask for explanation of this lack of communication.
Michael Brown asked if the line between Stortford
and Braintree could be opened to relieve road traffic to the West of Stortford
Publicity/Grants. Joyce
V said the Town Council had approved a grant of £150 to the SVP to help us with
our open evening. Members asked the Sec to send a thank-you letter.
